I Have a Problem Huhuhu

Wow, I have a weird problem with some files on my spanking brand new Windows 2000 Pro system (NTFS).

I downloaded some pictures and then, when saving them, I assigned very long names (long descriptions of each picture). Now, many of these pictures are just fine. But a few are . . . well . . . way screwed up.

I can’t view them. I can’t delete them. I can’t move them. And also, the “properties” are “not available” for these “phantom” files.

When I was downloading (and renaming) these files, I did get a few messages informing me that the names were too long – so I shortened them until the system was “happy”. It just could be (And I’m guessing here.) that my “phantom files” are all ones that required this “shortening”. But for whatever reason, I ended up with these weird files.

One more thing: I don’t really want to delete these files – I would prefer “resurrecting” them (If possible).

Oh yeah, and I already tried command line tools without successes.

One other curious caveat: These “phantom files” can be moved around by using “Backup” (Ntbackup.exe) – you know, the backup program that comes with Windows 2000. However, even though “Backup” can relocate these files, once relocated, they have the same size and name as the originals – and unfortunately the same behavior as well. (Or should I say “Lack of behavior” ?).
